About Synaptic Impact
Behind Synaptic Impact is Swiss music producer Guido Schluep, whose passion for electronic music and psychedelic soundscapes forms the foundation of this project. With a focus on energetic, groovy, funky and immersive Twilight Psytrance, Guido creates musical journeys that connect movement, emotion and imagination — like a well-drawn comic that carries the listener from beginning to end.
His fascination with electronic sounds, rhythmic structures and the unique atmosphere of Psytrance culture has led to a continuous creative development over many years. From this process, Synaptic Impact was born — a project dedicated to powerful beats, driving grooves and detailed sonic landscapes.
The name Synaptic Impact reflects the effect of musical connections. Just as synapses in the human brain transmit information and create new impulses, the music is intended to stimulate thoughts, emotions and experiences. Every track is designed to move people, make them dance and leave a lasting impression.
Funky Psytrance Made in Switzerland
In his own studio in Switzerland, Guido creates productions that combine modern sound design techniques with a strong attention to detail. The focus lies on a distinctive style of funky Twilight Psytrance, driving grooves and psychedelic elements that unfold their effect both on the dancefloor and during conscious listening.
Synaptic Impact understands music as a form of connection — between people, cultures, ideas and states of consciousness. Inspired by festivals, art, nature and the many facets of electronic music, the project continues to evolve and explore new creative possibilities.
Roots in Zurich Club Culture
Guido’s roots lie in the Zurich club culture of the 1990s and early 2000s. As a doorman at various underground clubs and at the legendary Labyrinth Club, he came into contact with many artists who are now among the best-known names in the national and international electronic music scene. This period had a lasting influence on his understanding of music, community and club culture.
After a longer break from the scene due to personal and family commitments, Guido began producing music intensively in his own studio in 2010. Over the years, the desire grew to become more actively involved in the Psytrance scene again and to work continuously toward presenting his own productions not only on SoundCloud, but also live in clubs and at festivals in the future. Out of this vision, the project Synaptic Impact was launched in 2024.
Musically, Guido was influenced in his early years by artists such as Atmos, Freq and Liquid Soul. At the same time, through various projects, he had the opportunity to meet many national and international artists. These encounters broadened his musical horizon and continue to influence his creative work today.
Why Twilight Psytrance?
Twilight Psytrance fascinates Guido through its unique combination of energy, playfulness and creative freedom. Unlike many other styles within the Psytrance genre, Twilight allows an almost limitless combination of driving rhythms, unusual sound effects, humorous elements and unexpected twists. This freedom is exactly what makes it so inspiring.
For Guido, music is more than just a functional dancefloor track. Every track should tell a story and take the listener on a journey. Twilight Psytrance provides the perfect platform for this, as it allows reality and fantasy to merge in a unique way. It is music that invites people to dance, wonder and smile at the same time.
A Synaptic Impact track is allowed to surprise, to be unusual and to contain a small dose of madness. Inspired by works such as Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas or Alice in Wonderland, sonic worlds emerge in which nothing seems impossible and every turn of the musical journey holds a new surprise.
What Makes the Sound of Synaptic Impact “Funky”?
For Guido, funky means one thing above all: the music has to groove. Alongside powerful kicks and psychedelic soundscapes, playful rhythms, surprising samples and a lively flow play a central role. Many tracks are created from the desire not simply to produce another Psytrance track, but to create music that makes people smile while pulling them onto the dancefloor.
Guido — who has been a big fan of Prince and James Brown since his youth — finds inspiration not only in Psytrance itself, but also in Funk, Progressive Trance and other electronic styles. The result is a sound that is energetic, humorous and rich in detail: music that is produced seriously, but does not always take itself too seriously.
At the moment, Guido is especially drawn to the funky Twilight sound of artists such as Jumpstreet, Rugrats and Render, as well as releases from the Italian label Looney Moon Records. At the same time, progressive influences have also played a decisive role in shaping his musical path over many years.
Guido consciously avoids being forced into a musical corset. Instead of following fixed stylistic rules, he produces the form of Psytrance that inspires him most in the moment.
What Role Does the Psytrance Community Play?
For Guido, the Psytrance scene has always been far more than just music. It is a place of encounter, creativity and mutual respect. Over the years, he has met countless people who make festivals, events and creative projects possible with passion, dedication and heart.
These experiences shaped him and ultimately also inspired his involvement in the development of the project emunity. The idea behind it is simple: to connect people, share knowledge and make the electronic music scene more visible. The focus is not only on artists, but also on all the people behind the scenes who help keep this culture alive.
For Guido, music and community are inseparably connected. Synaptic Impact therefore stands not only for productions and DJ sets, but also for the desire to be part of an open, creative and supportive community.
